So if you have young kids and you haven't made a field trip to Cabela's yet, you really should. It's inside, so weather isn't an issue. It's free, so cost isn't an issue. Your only excuse is if you don't have one nearby, and Fort Worthians do not have that excuse! On our most recent trip there, we stumbled upon the African animals exhibit which I could have sworn was not there last time we went. That is mostly what is pictured below. There is also a large aquarium that you can watch feedings at specified times. Also there is a large mountain in the middle of the store with mostly North American animals and then another room with local Texas wildlife. The fish are real, the rest are not, just so you know...:) Thank you to the local taxidermy institutes for that. The Fort Worth location also has a great pond outside that you can walk around or have a picnic at. Inside there are also things like boats and ATVs that thrill my boys as much as the animals. There is also a cafe upstairs that smells amazing but that I have resisted so far. Maybe next time...:) So next time you are feeling stir crazy with your munchkins, call me and we'll head up to Cabela's together!

Nasher Sculpture Center
So thanks once again to my creative husband, we discovered this gem of a free family activity in Dallas! On the first Saturday of each month, the Nasher Sculpture Center (along with Target as a sponsor) offers free admissions along with family activities throughout the day, many targeting children. We all know that I am a sucker for art museums, and this one did not disappoint! Here's a link to the schedule of events for the day: Target First Saturdays.
We went in January and we ALL had a wonderful time! There was a scavenger hunt where the kids had to identify a sculpture based on a picture of a part of it, then after they (meaning I) wrote down title and artist for each piece, they got a prize- this time it was a pencil bag, and we have put it to good use! My favorite was the Alexander Calder mobile piece and they had a Rodin as well! The center is indoor as well as a large outdoor garden and the kids loved getting some fresh air. We headed downstairs where they each got a notebook to fill with things that "INSPIRE" them- we got there at the tail end, so we brought it home and have been filling it with inspiration each Sunday in our church bag.:)
So if you and your family are looking for a great, free activity (we did have to pay for parking, but it was $5 for all day in a lot just South of the museum), then head on over this Saturday to the Nasher Sculpture Center!

Farmers Branch Historical Park
Each weekend we try to discover something fun and unique in our new home. This weekend we found a real gem!:) Farmers Branch Historical Park
The Park features homes from Texas history including log cabins of the most basic variety to a GORGEOUS Victorian mansion. Summers are probably more busy with camps and whatnot, but we found it a beautiful place to enjoy learning new things and plenty of space to let the boys get some energy out! They had a one room school house that we could explore, along with a sleeper car that you could peek in and of course my boys had to pretend to drive it. There was a general store, a train station, and a gas station as well, plus a large picnic area... So grab some grub and take your family on a fun free outing over to the Farmers Branch Historical Park!:)
Located in Farmers Branch just NE of 635 & I-35E, it's just under an hour from where we live right now.
Here's a link to a map of where it is: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=farmers+branch+historical+park&ll=32.919169,-96.89199&spn=0.010537,0.01929&fb=1&gl=us&hq=farmers+branch+historical+park&cid=0,0,15928344900984148288&t=m&z=16&iwloc=A
